It’s about that time of the year when we are getting ready to say goodbye to the old and ring in the new. New Year’s Eve isn’t too far away. If you are looking for a lavish, exciting, and fun destination, you must consider visiting Las Vegas.
New Year’s Eve parties and events in Las Vegas have always been eventful. This year, however, things are expected to be slightly toned down due to the COVID.
The Fireworks
One of the most anticipated events of the New Year’s Eve celebrations is the Strip’s fireworks display. Unfortunately, this annual tradition has been canceled this year due to the pandemic. While the large display on the Strip won’t be offered, there will be surrounding municipalities having fireworks.
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) President and CEO Steve Hill said the decision to cancel the show was made for the safety and security of guests and employees.
“Las Vegas has always been a bucket list New Year’s Eve destination, and we are going to make sure that remains the case — celebrating putting 2020 in the rear-view mirror in an ‘Only Vegas’ way,” Hill’s statement said (Velotta, 2020).
Visitors will still have plenty of entertainment options and opportunities for celebrating. Casinos and resorts are determined to make sure they provide an unforgettable experience for those who will come to Las Vegas during this time.
All is not lost. The Plaza Hotel in Downtown Vegas is hosting its annual fireworks show. You could enjoy the view from under the Plaza Dome, and the hotel is also offering special packages for New Year’s Eve.
Survival Tips for New Years in Las Vegas 2021
Here are some tips to keep in mind when visiting Vegas this New Year’s Eve:
Hotel Bookings
Prices are quite steep during this time of the year. It’s best to book your hotel early and grab some fantastic deals on accommodations.
The Weather
Vegas does get cold at night. Therefore, it’s best to dress warm and carry a coat if you plan to spend time on the Strip.
Parking
Though the crowds are expected to be less, it’s best to park your car in a hotel garage closest to where you plan to spend your time. You could take a picture of the garage you have parked in case you need this information later.
Follow the Law
Being in Vegas on New Year’s Eve is no reason not to be courteous and follow the law. Make sure you are following the rules and regulations because the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police will be out in full force to keep crime in check.
Transportation
The best way to get around is by using taxis, rideshares, monorail, or even walking. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will be offering free transit rides from December 31 at 6 p.m. through January 1 at 9 a.m. Remember not to drink and drive, so you enjoy responsibly and keep yourself and others safe.
COVID-19 Concerns for New Year’s Eve 2021
- According to the regulations laid down by the State of Nevada, all persons must wear facial coverings in public.
- In some locations, casino employees, as well as guests, need to wear masks.
- The occupancy at casinos, bars, restaurants, etc., is expected to be reduced.
- All locations will be following the necessary physical distancing measures.
- Thermal cameras are installed at the entrances to check occupants’ temperatures.
- Handwashing and hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the floors of the casinos.
- Hotel check-in desks might pose a problem to maintain the six-foot distancing. In such places, plexiglass barriers are installed for the safety of employees and guests.
While it’s essential to enjoy all that Vegas has to offer, it is also vital to stay smart and healthy during this time. In Vegas, unique things are being planned so everyone can look forward to 2021 with new hope and promise. Though these times have been tough, we will make sure Vegas is back more robust than ever. We hope you do come and visit us to experience all this and much more.
