While planning a trip to Las Vegas, the first thing that comes to mind are casinos and nightlife. But many visitors to Las Vegas like to travel with their pets and would be surprised to know what is available to experience with a four-legged friend.
Pet accommodations are a consideration. There are quite a few hotels in Vegas which allow you to check-in with your pet. Certain hotels subscribe to “Pet Stay Las Vegas” policies which are a common set of guidelines and amenities that are pet friendly.
Some of the important Pet Stay Las Vegas guidelines limit dogs weighing 50 pounds or less or a combination of multiples that weigh not more than 50 pounds total. Each pet needs to be present at the time of check-in. Dogs are permitted to walk through designated common areas and for their safety and wellbeing, must be crated when owners are not in the room. If you don’t have a kennel, some hotels rent them. Your hotel concierge can help you arrange for room kennels or suggest daycare options. (Quezada, 2017)

Things to Do with Your Pet
An early morning walk on the Strip removes the concerns of crowded evening walkways and allows you to get needed exercise. (Taking Your Dogs to Vegas … Is It A Good Bet? 2020).
Lake Mead is a 40-minute drive from downtown Vegas. The area is managed by the National Park Service, and dogs are welcome on the trails and lakefront if they are leashed. If you’re near Lake Mead, a guaranteed fun activity with your furry best friend (who can swim!) is to rent a paddle board at Westin Lake.
Las Vegas Heat
Las Vegas is a desert location, it’s hot and dry. Traveling with a pet means taking a few extra steps in planning and precautions. Heat exhaustion can happen very quickly in the 110° degree-plus temperatures that we see in the peak of summer. But that is easily avoidable with some simple reminders. (Wilder, 2019) Carry more water than you think you need. Don’t forget to keep a collapsible water bowl with you. Plan your trip around the hot parts of the day and invest in some cooling pads/vests. You can also take advantage of indoor places to walk your dog like Barx Parx which is an indoor dog park facility where you can take your dog to socialize and exercise.
